Kevin Markley Werk
April 14, 1961 – September 16, 2021

Kevin Werk, Alameda High School Class of 1979, was a two-way All-ACAL starter at center and middle linebacker on the 1978 undefeated Cal-Hi Sports # 1 ranked team in California, North Coast Section and ACAL championship team. Due to Kevin’s unselfish play, extreme commitment to his teammates, friends, family and passion for Alameda High School, his teammates felt it appropriate to create and fund the Kevin Werk Hornet Pride Award in his honor after passing away on September 16, 2021.

The general criteria for this award are as follows:

• Student/Athlete must be a senior member of the AHS football team.
• Determined by the coaching staff, the recipient should demonstrate the following characteristics: Hornet Pride, Team Leadership, Team Player
• Scholarship funds are to be used for expenses directly related to college tuition, college books or for a technical/vocational program.

Additional notes:

• The Kevin Werk Hornet Pride Award is two-fold: $1,000 dollars is allocated for the scholarship, and $500 dollars is allocated to the football program.
• Coach Morris has agreed to manage the monies and allocate both the $1,000 dollar scholarship and $500 dollar team donation as appropriate.
• The $1,000 scholarship can be split evenly between 2 recipients ($500 each)
• Along with an individual trophy for each award recipient, there is a perpetual Kevin Werk Hornet Pride Award trophy with each recipient’s name engraved.
• The Kevin Werk Hornet Pride Award is presented during the annual team banquet.
• The $1,500 dollar donation is submitted via the AHS Athletic Boosters Team Custom Donation website on or about 1^st of September.
